A matchup between two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference went down to the wire on Monday night as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Washington Wizards 140-135 in overtime. Kevin Love was the key contributor for the Cavaliers as he was on fire from 3 point range. Love exploded for 39 points on 6 of 10 shooting from 3. The Cavs came in as the first seed overall in the Eastern Conference, while the Wizards boast the third seed. With the loss, the home winning streak for the Wizards is snapped at 17.

The Wizards contended largely due to the play of Bradley Beal. Beal ignited for a season-high 41 points on 16 of 28 shooting in 45 minutes (overtime included). John Wall and Otto Porter also were fair contributors to the Wizards success. Porter, the league leader in 3 point percentage, posted 25 points while shooting 5 of 7 from 3 point range. Wall added a double double with 22 points and 12 assist. Wall also came up huge late for Washington, adding clutch free throws to give them the lead.

Cue Lebron James. After blowing a layup to give the Cavaliers a 119-118 lead with 3.4 seconds left, James hit a miracle bank shot 3 pointer to force overtime at 120-120. James had been stellar the entire game, getting his teammates involved and tallying a career high 17 assists. James is not known for his 3 point shooting, but he was in a different mode last night. He shot 6 of 8 from 3 point range including 4 in a row from deep to keep the Cavs in the game as it seemed that Washington was pulling away.

With James on the bench in overtime after fouling out, Kyrie Irving came alive. Irving scored 11 of his 23 points in overtime against Washington. Irving was relatively sluggish throughout the game, but it’s something about crunch time that brings out the best out of Uncle Drew. He nailed the go ahead 3 pointer to propel the Cavs to a 140-135 win over the Wizards. The Cavaliers next game is against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. The Wizards resume action Wednesday as well against the Brooklyn Nets.
